Most people are only haphazardly wishing for success. They hope success will find them.
When you start a landscaping business you'll be investing both time and money in your venture. You should have a clear plan for equipping your business, advertising to obtain customers, providing quality service, and dealing with the competition.
If you will need financing, your lender will require you to have a business plan.
Starting up a landscape business means you'll probably be in the market for some equipment. But, before you buy any landscaping equipment, evaluate the types of customers you will service and the services you will offer.
You may be able to start out with traditional walk behind lawn mowers. Many landscaping services have these. Most are self propelled and may have a bagger that catches grass clippings.
Most lawn care services have a riding lawn mower that more quickly cuts medium or larger lawns. Of course, the sooner you can get to your next job, the more you will be able to make.
Almost all landscaping crews are equipped with gas powered weed wackers. A weed wacker is essential to trim grass where your lawn mower can't reach. You'll use the week wacker around trees, along fences, next to gardens the house or other buildings.
It's essential to clean up after you've trimmed the grass. So a gas powered blower can be used to clean the walkways of grass. Alternatively, several brooms, like a tradition corn broom and push brooms, can be used. The gas powered blower will usually be faster and get you moving on to the next job faster.
Depending on the services you offer, many gas powered weed wackers come with attachments such as a lawn edger or brush cutter or trimer. These attachments can come in handy for occasional jobs. But, if you are doing a lot of edging or brush cutting you'll want specialized equipment for those jobs.
While these items are the tools of the trade, you'll also need to transport them to your customer's homes. For this you'll need a trailer and a vehicle that is large enough to transport your crew.
Most landscaping crews drive a light truck or SUV with the name of the company painted on the sides. Alternatively you could have magnetic signs made up with your company's name.
The trailer needs to be large enough to safely carry and easily deploy your equipment at the work sites. Some crews use open trailers and other crews use totally enclosed trailers.
